I bought myself some nice pencils and gold and silver sharpies yesterday, and spent the majority of today having fun with them. 
I'm rather happy with the result! 
The proper, full piece will be uploaded to my gallery soon (I made some differently coloured versions in PS and couldn't decide yet which one I like best - the usual). These two shots show off the actual texture and look of the real-life piece better than any photos of the full and finished thing I've been able to take, though ...
